I am still in the process of job-searching (if you have any leads, pass them on!) but I had one interview already and things are looking good. I am hoping to find one soon- keep your fingers crossed.
Finally found a place and moved in a few days ago. Its a very VERY : ) small studio flat in a nice building in the Old Pakistani Consulate area of Bur Dubai. It small- but enough. And housing is so expensive here that it is the only way I wouldn't have to live with a family or share a room. Living with a family would be fine, in general, however, I need to be able to use a kitchen, can't afford to eat out all the time here either. The dirhams just fly away, I swear!
Lately, this has been my routine- get up & get ready in the morning and walk the 4-5 blocks to Bank Street, which recieved its name because it has a lot of banks. I like this one cafeteria on it where I can get a fresh juice for 4 dirhams (just over 1 USD). Then I buy a paper and scrounge the 'Appointments' section (job listings). Then I walk down bank street to the intersection where it becomes computer street (can you guess why its called that) where there is a little internet cafe that I like. Then I send my CV to everyone I can think of, and their mother. After one hour straight of flooding e-mail inboxes, I head out, and sometimes stop at the supermarket to buy something to make for dinner.
Often at night shady and I will go out with the Aiesec people, Peep, Chico, Sarah, Sherif and everyone for shisha or something chill. Although shisha isn't very cheap here.
Ok- sorry to stop so suddenly- but my hour is up!
